The Department of Defense has identified 3,223 American service members who have died since the start of the Iraq war. It confirmed the deaths of the following Americans this week:

GLAWSON, Curtis E. Jr., 24, Specialist, Army; Daleville, Ala.; First Infantry Division.

GRIFFIN, Darrell R. Jr., 36, Sgt. First Class, Army; Alhambra, Calif.; Second Infantry Division.

LEE, Dustin J., 20, Cpl., Marines; Quitman, Miss.; Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Ga.

LIGHTNER, Nicholas J., 29, Sgt., Army; Newport, Ore.; First Cavalry Division.

SAMS, Joey T. II, 22, Pfc., Army; Spartanburg, S.C.; Third Infantry Division.
